Ravens Rally Towels are a Horrible Idea
You have to wonder if Ravens marketing staff keeps up with blogs, because if they asked us humble scribes of day-job avoidance, they would’ve known that marketing Rally Towels for the Pittsburgh game was the worst idea to hit Baltimore since Target gift cards at the Mayor’s office.
Prior to this Sunday’s Ravens-Steelers game (Nov. 29, 8:20 p.m.), the Baltimore Ravens and Under Armour will provide over 71,000 fans with purple and white rally towels as they enter the gates of M&T Bank Stadium.
The Ravens are encouraging fans to wear all purple and waive their rally towel for the nationally-televised Sunday Night Football broadcast.
I get that we hate Pittsburgh, want their stadium to melt in boiling ketchup, etc. But stealing their idea to energize our hate does nothing for the outsiders who’ll watch the game and say, “not only do these maroons wear purple camo, but they wave fake terrible towels.”
The idiots down the road tried this. It failed miserably and drew the laughter of friend and foe alike. Don’t do this, Ravens. Please, don’t do this.
