Willis McGahee Cares Little For Your Depth Chart Drama

Willis McGahee, who had a rough 2008 with injuries and early-season questions about his conditioning and work ethic, is back in the headlines for backing up Ray Rice in off-season activities.

“I don’t mind,” McGahee said Tuesday during the Ravens’ passing camp. “Ray has been here the whole offseason. It wouldn’t be right, just coming in and taking over. I respect game.

“Ray has been here the whole offseason and going with the ones when I wasn’t here. Work is work. You’re going to get work whether it’s with the first, second or third.”

It’s no secret that McGahee and the coaching staff have been on the outs since the inception of the John Harbaugh era. That will likely never change, but two things are certain with McGahee and his place on the Ravens. His injuries, inconsistency and contract make him virtually untradeable, and he has showed some flair for big plays when healthy and focused.

That being said, Ravens fans can take heart in having one of the best backfields in the NFL in 2009. Look for progress out of McGahee going forward, and for Baltimore Sun columnist Mike Preston to stupidly call him “soft” in 5…4…3…2…
