Harlem Globetrotters Set Their Sights on Derrick Mercer
The Harlem Globetrotters is one of the world’s most beloved and well-known basketball teams, traveling with a mission to bring joy to crowds, embarrassment to the Washington Generals, and opportunities to basketball players on the fringe of NBA-caliber talent.

The last time we saw Mercer, he was running an American Eagles team that was about eight minutes away from one of the greatest opening round upsets in NCAA Tournament history. AU fell just short that night, but Mercer’s drive and talent apparently left an impression on a franchise known for frustrating opponents with jokes, trickery and the occasional magic circle.
Should Mercer accept the invitation, he’ll join an elite franchise with a high level of personnel turnover, but a tradition of winning and universal fan support.
