Ravens Release Chris McAlister

It was bound to happen. Chris McAlister was old, battling injury and on the outs with head coach John Harbaugh. So the Ravens released the sometimes Pro Bowler, all the time operator of gigantic trucks.

You hate to see him go, particularly when the Baltimore Ravens’ defense depends so heavily on the ability of corners to stay with receivers. But at 31 years old, McAlister just isn’t the dominant corner he once was. Samari Rolle is likely to follow him, which puts a great deal of pressure on the Ravens to keep Frank Walker or go after a corner in the first round of the draft.

So what does McAlister think about all of this?

“I’m still dealing with the shock of the whole thing,” McAlister told 105.7 FM today. “I can’t imagine this happened. I never thought it would happen.”

Really? Because, I could have sworn the Ravens slapped him upside his head with the franchise player tag a couple of times over his tenure in Baltimore, a fact that wasn’t lost on Ravens insiders even when he signed his long-term deal in 2004.

So, no more car crashes, public spats with coaches, and gambling for interceptions on slant routes. But just for old time sake, here’s a classic Chris McAlister driving incident.
