Are Maryland Terrapins Basketball Fans That Gangster?

First, it was General Greivis Vasquez. And then they got Virginia Tech’s Jeff Allen suspended for a game. Are Maryland Terrapins basketball fans that good at taunting?

Normally, you associate fans getting under the skin of players with the Duke Blue Devils, and that’s usually because of their wealth and sense of entitlement. Duke fans could easily chant Happy Valentine’s Day and get a rise out of most players.

And while the Terp faithful are usually too dense for clever mass taunting (although “That’s Disgusting” was an instant classic), they aren’t nationally regarded for inciting players to deplorable acts. They are more annoying than antagonizing.

So, are the Terps turning the corner in becoming a fan base capable of rattling opponents? And if they are, is Gary Williams responsible for the Terrapins fans rising? In their support of an embattled coach, are the fans striking out on their own to accomplish what the Maryland basketball players can’t?

Getting in the head of their opponents at home?

Whatever. The Dukey swillards are drunken with jealousy that MD sports teams have an energetic, die-hard fan base. Too bad they will never experience the same.
