Why So Serious About Brian Billick?

Brian Billick appears to be a front runner for the head coaching gigs of the New York Jets and Detroit Lions. Would either team be a good fit?

Absolutely.

The Lions truly can’t go anywhere but up, so they might as well start with a coach that is known for scheming the two most important phases of a pro football team; its offense and the media that covers it. Matt Millen left the team in a shambles, and mortgaged off any fan faith in the squad with the Roy Williams trade. Billick, at the very least, can get this town talking again.

The same is true in New York, where Billick has a decent running back in Thomas Jones, an improving offensive line, and a suitable defense. Just weeks ago, the Jets appeared to be destined for the Super Bowl. Cue the Brett Favre interceptions and and the late-season choke, and out goes the Mangenius.

And how do you replace a genius with anyone else but a genius?

He’s soft on veterans, hard on players that don’t produce, and wants to control the media at every turn. It’s probably why he’s part owner of a media outlet.

Brian Billick would be an excellent choice for either of these teams. He can coach, he can manage every other ego but his own, and he brings much to talk about.

  1. Trading Roy Williams might have been Millen’s best move….the Lions made out like bandits with the draft picks when Roy Pt. 2 proved to be mediocre with the Cowboys…..and Detroit still has Calvin Johnson, but nothing else.

  2. JC says:

I don’t think Roy Williams was as mediocre as the two quarterbacks in Detroit and Dallas who couldn’t get him the ball.
