Washington Post to Redskins: Be Like Everybody Else

Seems that the Washington Redskins beat writers employed by the Washington Post take their titles very seriously, because they are laying a hurting on the Skins with this recent feature.

But for Redskins fans, who have not enjoyed a regular season with at least 11 victories since the 1991 season, when the team last played in the Super Bowl, the goal might be far simpler: Be like the Falcons. Or the Dolphins. Or, best of all, the Ravens.

Oh, no he di-int mention the Ravens!

The article goes on to mention filling needed areas with youth, particularly along the offensive and defensive lines. But what good is it to appeal to the knowledge of General Manager Vinny Cerrato, when he isn’t the one signing the checks or holding the final yay or nay. Cerrato is there to make it look legit, but not even President Obama could sway Snyder away from interfering in personnel decisions.

For Redskins perspective and/or dejection, I defer to the Mottrams. Let us hear the words of Chris on this subject.

So, yeah, I think you can see the overall theme developing here. The first step to creating a solution is pin-pointing the problem. I think we’ve done that … like two years ago. The only question is whether Cerrato (who, it’s worth noting, continues to defend wasting the team’s first three ‘08 picks on receivers in the article) can remove head-from-ass and make it happen.

And that pretty much sums up the Redskins history of draft and free agency failure. Truth is, that money and sports really don’t mix well in this region, as the Baltimore Orioles often go through this same charade. Things appear to be looking up, but certainly not close to taking off.

Take heart, Redskins fans. And keep buying those jerseys, because you seem not to notice the formula of signing fading free agents + explosive memorabilia sales = more money for Snyder to do it all over again year after year.
