The Maryland Terrapins’ Big Bailout

The Maryland Terrapins needed a home win against a mediocre team to prove that they weren’t what most of us hoped they would be; a public school version of the four-guard Duke Blue Devil attack.

So it worked out perfectly that the Virginia Cavaliers came calling after a two-game slump against the state of Florida. The Terps lost a big lead but won by a small margin, Dave Neal proved yet again that he is the best player on the Terps squad, even when getting his head busted to the white meat, and the Terps find some momentum as they prepare for their dose of Blue Magic this Saturday.

Heck yes they needed this one, and even though the beating seems inevitable at the hands of Duke University, the Terps have a history of playing beyond expectations against elite level competition. Namely, just Duke and North Carolina.

So an opportunity for success is present, even when the Terps work hard to make us believe otherwise. Greivis Vasquez could easily go for 30, Eric Hayes could go for a double-double, and Gary Williams might not spontaneously ignite his suit jacket every T.V. timeout.

Or, they can fold up and get ran out of Durham like a drunk, mentally-ill stripper.

But that’s usually how bailouts go. You never know where or when the big payout will actually take affect.
