A Red Resolution for the Washington Capitals

by JC on January 2, 2009

Washington Capitals

In 2009, we should all pay more attention to the Washington Capitals, because not paying attention to them feeds the stereotype that this town is all fair-weathered for a mismanaged football operation and nothing else.

Maybe you are paying more attention to the Washington Capitals, and are fully aware that they are sitting pretty in second place in the Eastern Conference. Of course you already knew Alex “Hot Sauce” Ovechkin was having another MVP-caliber year, as he is second in the league in points and goals.

If you did know all of this, then forgive my personal repentance for not paying more attention to the best ticket in town. I can’t even use the “I live in Baltimore” excuse anymore, because Caps commercials are in full rotation in our market. There’s no escaping the Caps and their great play this year, even though it feels so much better to trash the Washington Redskins and the Washington Wizards.

So here’s the resolution. Until the Caps begin to suck, which doesn’t appear likely considering they’ve won five in a row and nine of their last ten, I’m going to cover their success as equally as I do the epic failure of other regional teams. The Ravens don’t count. They are absolutely glorious and deserve all of our love.

But so do the Caps. And two days into the New Year, I’m going to try harder to show them how much I care.

That’d be great if you covered the Caps more.

The most unfortunate thing about hockey is that it, more than any other major sport, has the greatest discrepancy between watching live and watching on TV.

My resolution is to go to more Caps games…..which is a completely different experience that Wizards games. Caps fans are much more dedicated followers.
