What You Talkin’ Bout Willis McGahee?

Willis McGahee had his worst season as a professional running back this season, and it’s everyone’s fault but his.

Apparently, head coach John Harbaugh’s fitness requirements didn’t jive with those of McGahee, who believes that it led to all of the injuries he had throughout the season. If he was a quarterback and the topic was changing technique and film study, that I could see.

But McGahee is a running back. His three primary responsibilities are as follows.

1. Hold on to the ball and don’t drop it.

2. Run to where the guys in the other shirts aren’t.

3. Run as fast as you can.

That’s his job description. If the demand was to be limited to one non-serious injury, I could see his gripe. But being asked to be in shape for a rigorous camp doesn’t seem like an unreasonable request from a first-year coach charged with improving upon a lackluster offense and aging defense.

Willis, you lose. You are likely going to be out of Baltimore unless you have a miracle stretch of playoffs games and become the Super Bowl MVP, and even then, people will still likely want you out to give the same chances to Le’Ron McClain and Ray Rice.

Something about those University of Miami backs here in the region. They just don’t seem to do right on the radio.
