Missing Roger Mason Jr.

The San Antonio Spurs knew something that each and every Washington Wizards fan knew throughout last season. Roger Mason Jr. is a scorer.

And now he gets to do things like this.

He’ll likely be on a team contending for an NBA championship, while the Wizards are jockeying for draft pick positioning. Interstingly enough, what Ernie Grunfeld will wind up paying to a high draft pick just might have been enough to sign Mason last offseason, which would have left the Wizards more than the locksmith on offensive lockdown.

DeShawn Stevenson was supposed to be that guy that would stretch the defense and make it easier for Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison to work inside out. Instead, the season has been a flurry of turnovers, quick shots and defensive lapses, blended together to make for an expectation of losing every night.

Meanwhile, Mason is winning games at the buzzer and averaging career highs in all categories as a starter. A starter for one of the best basketball dynasties of all time.

I’m not saying Roger Mason Jr. would’ve prevented this total meltdown, but the Wizards having seller’s remorse doesn’t make the hindsight or foresight on this team without him any clearer.
