Farewell George Michael

First the Sports Machine, now this?

If George Michael says he’s not going to cut his people, than by the power of Wednesday Night sports bloopers, he’s not going to cut his people. But because Channel 4 has the lame excuse of the economy, he’s gone.

That means no more ‘Redskins Report,’ no more ‘Full Court Press,’ and no more drunken Sonny Jurgensen, at least on network television.

A man’s got to have principles, and the preservation of local sports analysis was his. In time, people will begin to realize how much of a pioneer he was. The George Michael Sports Machine was the catalyst for the annoyance that would become known as SportsCenter. The television careers of Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon were launched through his sports roundtable discussions. Their schtick led them to lucrative deals with ESPN, that all began with Pardon the Interruption.

And now, a little thing like money has gone and spoiled it for us all.

Farewell George Michael. There will never be another one like you, because we all know that Jim Vance won’t allow it.
