Daniel Cabrera is Mr. Mid-Atlantic

Just when you thought Daniel Cabrera’s arm had flamed out for good, the Washington Nationals have proven that a year on the wild side may be a good thing. The Nats have signed Cabrera to a one-year deal worth $2.6 million.

Pending a physical, the Nats will get a right-hander who has led the American League in walks for two of the past three seasons, and was so bad for the Orioles last year, they got him a physical to try and find what could be reducing his velocity and limiting his control.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Cabrera gets his act together and pitches well for the Nationals. When he is on, there are very few starters that can bring the heat like he can. Unfortunately, the Orioles couldn’t justify keeping a five-year veteran with a career record below .500 on the roster for more than $3 million per, which factors out to about $33k per walk he threw last season.

Indeed, we wish him well in Washington, as we do the fans that sit behind home plate next season.
