The Wizards Will Break Your Heart
With an appearance on national television at home against the Houston Rockets, the Washington Wizards had every opportunity possible to show the world they were better than their 1-8 record.
Instead, they showed the world that they are every bit as bad, and then some.
In case you missed it, let’s break down some of the things that lead to yet another Wizards’ squandered lead, and yet another loss.
- When Juan Dixon is your go-to-guy in the 4th quarter- This is nothing agains the Terrapin great, but when you’ve got a great role player trying to step into the make-or-break mold, its not a good look. With as many big shots as Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler have made for the franchise, you’ve got to wonder what the motivation is behind this.
- When Eddie Jordan’s rotations are as predictable as Gilbert’s public commentary – Eddie Jordan didn’t play Etan Thomas or Antonio Daniels in the first half, and then gave them significant burn in the second half. Why go away from a healthy interior mix of Jamison, Butler, and surprise – Andray Blatche when it is working for you at both ends of the court?
- When Andray Blatche is productive – We’re so used to this guy being the definition of bum, that any time he’s doing somethig positive on the court, its reason for pause.
- When defensive still proves to be a distraction – Let’s just face it, the Washington Wizards do not want to play defense. Obviously, its just a way to pass the time between backdoor cuts and dribble handoffs at the top of the key.
- When Big Tigger doesn’t know what to play during a Wizards collapse - Just as the local broadcast was preparing to cut to commercial after the Rockets to a three point lead late in the fourth, Beyonce’s Single Ladies began blaring. How about the theme from Rocky, Big Tig? Perhaps a rousing selection from T.I. might have worked? For a team that isn’t anywhere close to the playoffs, blasting a song about putting a ring on isn’t the best way to get anyone hype for a defensive stop.
