Redskins Should See a Picture Bigger Than Dallas
Okay, so the Redskins lost at home to the Dallas Cowboys. A big deal in the recent history of the rivalry, but in the bigger scope of the season, not so much.
About the worst thing you could take away from the loss is the usually-efficient Redskins offense dropping a second-half goose egg. Under Gibbs, that would be a sign of offensive woes to. But for a Jim Zorn offense featuring a banged up Clinton Portis, it’s not surprising that the Cowboys were able to limit a pass heavy offensive attack.
What is surprising is that an injured Clinton Portis still had 15 of the Redskins 18 total rushing attempts. Shaun Alexander, Ladell Betts and Jason Campbell had the remainder for 24 total yards.
Defensively, the Redskins forced two interceptions despite having zero pressure on the quarterback. Their saving grace is a talented secondary, but it will all be for naught of the remaining teams on their schedule follow the Cowboys’ blueprint of running the ball right at the Redskins front line.
And that could be a reality, given that two of the Redskins next four opponents feature run-heavy offensive schemes.
The Washington Redskins may have lost the game, but they have a bigger picture to view than a home loss to the Cowboys. Excluding two remaining games against NFC East competition, the Skins have one game against a team with a winning record. It won’t be a cakewalk, but the remainder of the season appears to be a lot easier to swallow than last night’s loss to the Cowboys.
