Eddie Jordan Fired

You knew it had to come at some point.

The Washington Wizards were 1-10. They were not responding to the pleas and degrading comments of the man who brought respectability and excitement to professional basketball in Washington.

And now, that man has been fired.

It is a bittersweet moment for the franchise. Good and great players are injured. Young players are steadily improving, and the city is ready for a contender. They just won’t be ready under Jordan, who was highly regarded as an in-game manger, but had been questioned about rotations since the start of this season.

Ed Tapscott will take over as head coach on an interim basis. More reaction from the blogosphere coming soon.

UPDATE – ESPN.com has assistant coach Mike O’Koren also being fired, and Randy Ayers being named the top assistant.

UPDATE #2 – Steinz has Tapscott’s coaching record in D.C.

UPDATE #3 - Ivan Carter of the Washington Post has the scoop from Grunfeld, and the reaction of the Wizards’ players.
