Support Howard University’s Homecoming
Let’s get this clear before you read any further. I did not attend Howard University. I support Howard University as a sister historically black college, but my alma mater is Morgan State University. You know, home of the greatest football catch you’ll ever see in life.
With that being said, Morgan visits Howard tomorrow for Howard’s homecoming. Most black folks from the DC-Maryland-Virginia area know what time it is when it comes to Howard Homecoming, as its one the premier athletic events for black folks in the area next to Redskins-Cowboys.
But it would be nice if people of all races would come out and support the homecoming festivities. The parade and football game are some of the best you’ll see anywhere. Morgan beat Howard last year for MSU’s homecoming in a 36-33 overtime thriller.
And by thriller, I mean that I came dangerously close to soiling myself on the pro-Howard side of the stadium.
But seriously, if you’ve never been to a black college football game, its some of the best entertainment money can buy. The bands are spectacular, the crowd energy is off the hook, and the campus life is on full display.
If you think you’ll be uneasy around a large group of black folks, you shouldn’t be. This guy went to South Carolina State’s homecoming and had a blast. We curse about as much as anybody else at a football game, except at homecoming, people’s mamas are sitting there, so you don’t even have to worry about that.
If I can make it through the traffic, you’ll likely see me there tomorrow on the Morgan side. Diapers and all.
