So Daniel Cabrera Was Just That Bad?
Baltimore Orioles pitcher Daniel Cabrera was once a fastballing’ wunderkind, but this season, he quickly became a volatile mix of Wild Thing Vaughan and Rick Ankiel on the mound. It got so bad, most folks guessed that his arm had been demon possessed and required extensive medical treatment.
And now we hear that there was nothing wrong at all, and that scar tissue is to blame for a pitcher who can’t hit the broad side of the Chesapeake Bay.
“It just requires time off and rest, no surgery,” MacPhail said. “It was something that was actually healing. It might have been just a little scar tissue in there.”
An 8-10 record with a 5.25 ERA is not scar tissue. That’s scarred for life. And you don’t want to say that because just maybe, he could be an imposing middle reliever some day.
But today, and for many days prior, all of the pitches that Cabrera didn’t pray over the plate usually wound up in Lexington Market, and for that, there’s got to be a better explanation than scar tissue.
