Maryland Terrapins: Rank and File in the ACC

Well, wouldn’t you know it, the Maryland Terrapins football squad beat a team they were supposed to beat, and they get rewarded with an appearance in the AP Top 25.

It is what Maryland fans have been waiting for from their Terps. Legitimacy. It wasn’t enough to beat the likes of California and Clemson, only to fall flat against teams like Middle Tennessee State and Virginia. Beating up on hapless North Carolina State gives this program vibrancy, and this coaching staff a week or two off the hot seat.

They are among the ACC’s elite and bowl-bound. And while they are still a hop and a skip away from the leap into national relevancy they expected some years ago, they are closer to that goal today than they have been since their 10-3 campaign in 2003.

And that could hurt them, because success this year brings back that old familiar friend that has plagued Maryland athletics across the board: expectation. They will be expected to recruit hard, they will be expected to execute every game, and they will be expected to compete for the ACC championship.

But enough of what could bring the Terps down, its time to lift them up! After all, a place in the top 25 means you’re good enough to be laughed at by the SEC and Big 12, and that has to count for something.
