A while ago, I surmised that the Washington Redskins could be the team to beat in the NFC this season. It took them a week to show that form, but it showed up not a moment too soon in a thrilling 29-24 win over the visiting New Orleans Saints.
Jason Campbell threw for a bunch of yards, Santana Moss caught a bunch of passes, and Clinton Portis ran for a bunch of yards. Oh, and the defense looked pretty impressive. They had to get the win in comeback fashion, but the Redskins made the NFC East look like a four-pony show instead the Three Musketeers and the D.C. Divas.
Here’s what Diamond City has to say about the win.
He’s still slow on the trigger, but, unlike past games where he moved the ball but came up short (i.e. Dallas and Tampa Bay last year), this ended with a 67-yard game-winning bomb and 4th-and-2 game-clinching conversion. It was beautiful, and it’s what getting over the hump looks like.
Maybe the most amusing revelation from Zorn’s talk was that he has a tendency to somewhat overuse the headset. “During a couple of the timeouts, I said, ‘Here’s what we’ve got,’ and called the play,” he said. “Then I’d call back and say, ‘Okay, remember, you got this.’ And then, ‘Okay, I’m being a nervous Nellie’ – which was the term I used – ‘but I also wanted to tell you, don’t forget this.’ I found myself a couple of times just laying it on.”
* Bonus – Before the game, Chris Cooley decided it might be a good thing to show his Johnson off to the world along with his tight end test. I’ll let you be the judge of whether he passes or not.
