Let The Chris Turner Show Begin
So Jordan Steffy is officially out, and Chris Turner is in as the Terps’ starting quarterback. Torn ligaments in Steffy’s thumb did what head coach Ralph Friedgen didn’t have the heart to do, which was to get Turner in as a starter.
But how interesting that Turner classified his opportunity as “inevitable,” particularly as there was a lot of speculation about him transferring after Steffy was named the starter.
It’s “like I said the week I was the backup. I said I’d be ready for anything, and here I am now,” Turner said yesterday. “I had a good idea. I knew Jordan messed up his thumb pretty bad.”
It doesn’t seem that Turner wished ill upon the fifth-year senior, but it certainly is possible coaches convinced Turner to stay on two ideas: the idea that Steffy is notoriously frail, or that if he struggled, he would see susbstantial playing time with the opportunity to become the full time starter.
How else would he have gotten a good idea?
