How Bad Has Daniel Cabrera Been This Season For the Orioles?
Bad enough that the team doctor examined him yesterday to check for structural damage. Finding none, they tried to explain how any Major Leaguer could blow so hard without requiring an immediate backiotomy.
“I think there are some delivery differences that could attribute to it as well,” club president Andy MacPhail said. “We’ll make sure he sees the appropriate doctors, and we’ll exhaust every possibility we can think of to see what might be the issue — whether it is physical, whether it is mechanical — and then try to solve it. It’s a process of elimination, and we’ll subtract them one at a time.”
So we know that the team president thinks he just sucks. What does manager Dave Trembley think?
“I think the course of action that guys ought to take all the time is just be upfront. Just say it,” Trembley said. “If you’re hurt and you can’t pitch or you can’t play, just let me know, goodness’ sakes.”
Well, at least the manager is on his side. And since Cabrera’s not talking about it, we’re left to assume that the shellacking he took at the hands of the New York Yankees was a sign that his elbow has the muscular composition of a crabcake. Not a jumbo lump, mind you. All backfin.
