Five Things Less Likely Than Cristian Guzman Hitting for the Cycle

By JC • on August 29, 2008

In a season of let downs, the Washington Nationals gave the hometown fans more than racing presidents to cheer on last night, downing the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-2 and completing a home sweep of the cross-country rivals.

But more than that, Washington’s unlikely all-star Cristian Guzman put on an unlikely hitting display, upstaging Elijah Dukes’ two home runs on the night by hitting for the cycle.

The cycle is a rarity in baseball, and in honor of a team where injuries are the most consistent aspect of its season, here’s five things that are more rare than Fat Boy Cris hitting for cycle.

5. Fighting the law…and winning. - This dumb broad must’ve felt some kind of way because it was a Yankee cop. Or because she was black. Or because she was drunk.

4. The Nationals sweeping anybody. - Prior to August, the Nats were more likely to appear on Supermarket Sweep than to sweep an opponent. And that’s pretty difficult, considering the show hasn’t produced any new episodes in more than five years.

3. Jay Mariotti Being Welcomed Back to the Sun-Times - When Roger Ebert curses you, you might just be the world’s biggest a-hole.

2. The Redskins looking decent in the preseason - They never look good in the preseason, which might be an indication that they’ll be great in the regular season.

1. A black presidential nominee - Just cause’ it’s rare doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

I was at the game last night……those weren’t the Nats that I know.

Would woulda thunk….especially after Manny hit a homer in the top of the 1st and Randy St. Claire was making trips to the mound after the first five batters.

Less likely? How about a female VP pick, who was runner-up Miss Alaska in ‘84, from the Republicans.

And suddenly, “Yes We Can” just got a little more bass in it’s trunk.
