Even When He Recruits, Gary Williams Still Can’t Recruit

by JC on June 10, 2008

Gary Williams has the blues this summer. While ACC foes are announcing signed prospects, his recruits are announcing they are leaving College Park.

And you know things are bad when this blog hasn’t posted in a couple of weeks.

Truth is, the rise of the regional mid-majors is catching up to Gary and the Terps. Local athletes are looking towards American University, Morgan State University, George Mason University, and other smaller programs to bolster their ability and player profile. In Garyland, players tend to get caught up in sweaty sport coats and a whole bunch of .500 ball.

And that’s a shame for a program that won its first national championship less than seven years ago.

I don’t think Debbie Yow is going to take much more of this, unless she’s visionary enough to make women’s basketball the winter sports program of note at the school.

Isn’t this exactly how the movie Blue Chips started?

Gary better call the ‘Friends of the Program’ …if there are any left.
