Athletes and Suspended Licenses – A Match Made in Heaven

Washington Wizards forward Andray Blatche got arrested yesterday for reckless driving and operating a vehicle with a suspended license. There’s no good purpose in talking about how ridiculous Blatche’s tenure in Washington D.C. has been, so I’d much rather talk about a mostly undetected phenomenon among professional athletes.
Suspended licenses.
Why is it that more times than not, an athlete getting caught up for doing something illegal in or with a motor vehicle is doing it with a suspended license? As if the petty malfeasance wasn’t good enough, dude has to catch the extra because of faulty papers.
And how come we never hear about what it is that they were doing to get their license suspended in the first place? It can’t be alcohol or drug offenses, because that would be all over the news. Can’t be hit and runs, because that would be all over youtube. Has to be something like unpaid parking tickets, or forgetting registration fees.
And if that’s the case, it’s even dumber than boozing behind the wheel because they have enough money to hire a person part-time to attend to all of their traffic misdemeanors.
Athletes and suspended licenses are a serious problem in this country. How are we as fans going to flock around athletes if they can’t pull up to the front of the club in something sitting on them big thangs? What happens to DUB Magazine without athletes?
If you or someone you know is a relative or an acquaintance of an athlete with a suspended license, talk to them. Encourage them to get help. Don’t let another dumb-ass millionaire fall prey to this scourge.

The phenomenon seems to be that it happens not just once to ball players, but multiple times, as this instance was Blatche’s 3rd.
