Jay Bilas Owns the Baltimore Sun

Few newspapers come more incorrect than the Baltimore Sun. They wish they had the pull that the Washington Post does, and they write with more bias than Rush Limbaugh in a Maryland Terrapins throwback. They owe HBO a lot of money for putting them in the national spotlight, so how do they respond? They let a sports blogger name his spot The Life of Kings.”

What a bunch of maroons.

Apparently, I’m not the only one who regularly picks up on the Sun’s comprehensive mediocrity. Ray Frager, a blogger who doesn’t quite get blogging or sports for that matter, runs the Sun’s sports media blog. He recently took issue with Jay Bilas and his man crush on North Carolina’s Tyler Hansbrough. Specifically, Bilas’ assertion that Michael Jordan wasn’t close to Hansbrough in his propensity for hard work on the basketball court.

Bilas didn’t like that too much, and responded in kind.

However, I do take exception to your implication
that the comments regarding Tyler Hansbrough were racially motivated.
If you recall, I compared Hansbrough favorably to the hardest worker
and greatest competitor the game has known, Michael Jordan. If you will
recall as well, I have praised Curry all season for being a smart
player and one that really knows how to play. I have praised countless
others for their work ethics.

At face value, you would think that Frager’s assessment could have some value, as Curry was absolute currency throughout the tournament. But when you get down to, you know, actually knowing basketball, you realize that the work Hansbrough puts in as a post player far exceeds that of any college player in recent history. Mostly because of his unlimited energy, but also in part because post players are active on almost every play that they are on a basketball court, either positioning to receive a pass or box out, moving to close out or set a screen, and rebounding on both ends.

There’s only so much a perimeter player can do, even a perimeter player that went onto become the NBA’s greatest player.

How’s that for a react quote?

  1. And yes, there are many in college basketball (of many colors) who hustle….but not many of those anchor one of the top 4 teams in the nation.

I’m not much of a Tar Heel fan, but I gotta give Tyler his recognition.

The Natty media does love their great white hypes….but I’m not ready to give them hell for being on Hansbrough’s jock just yet.

I hate Carolina. Even I will give Hansbrough credit for being a hard worker. There’s no single stat that measures hard work, but just look at what Hansbrough does for his team and it’s a no brainer.
