It’s not that hard. The team inexplicably makes money despite having a fan base that hates it. Erik Bedard, the team’s best pitcher wants out, by all accounts. Maybe he and Aubrey Huff had a bad experience.
So why not try and get Santana? It would make things a lot more smoother in the clubhouse. Melvin Mora and Miguel Tejada wouldn’t be so upset, Bedard might catch feelings and want to come back, anything can happen.
Sure you might lose a lot in trying to create a proposal, but it would be more exciting than just fielding offers for Bedard to leave town. Damn, the Nationals have made more noise than the Orioles, and they just recently signed the National League’s version of NWA in Lastings Milledge and Elijah Dukes.
But you have to go after the guy. Andy McPhail should go yank up Buster Olney and tell him Angelos is about to break the bank open for Johan. Make him the richest pitcher in history, just to throw off the Yankees and the Red Sox.
We’ll know its a lie, but we’ll know it’s better to be lied to than to look at the garbage next to the Harbor for yet another season.
