If you aren’t familiar with the term, ‘Jump the Shark,’ it basically means when something becomes wildly popular then quickly becomes viewed as over saturated, over exposed and over used.
Some people are likening the popularity of “Crankin’ dat Soulja Boi” in this category. I like the dance, I think the beat is cute, and I think it’s cool when little kids and senior citizens can relate on the same dance step. So, to rush to the aid of Soulja Boi and his hypnotizing song and dance, here are five terms or phenomenons that have recently jumped the shark.
5. Bling Bling - Originally implemented by the Cash Money Millionaires in the late 90’s, it had a decent run for about 4 years before middle-aged political pundits, professors, and ignorant pop stars dulled the phrase out. Making the dictionary as a certified slang term didn’t help its cause.
4. Drunken starlets - Here’s one that recently went out of style fast. Thank wining Nancy Grace for putting this one out of commission. I mean, it isn’t funny to watch Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton, and Brittany Spears spiral out of control? There’s nothing I like more. What I like less is….
3. “Leave (enter maligned celebrity here) alone!” videos. - It started with #4 on our list, but has extended to Bill Belichick, and other folks who have been lambasted in the media.
2. The people who make these videos getting their own shows. - What makes this lame is that they can’t keep the same trick up for more than a month before people want to throw up at the sight of their stupid faces.
1. The term “Jumped the Shark” - It doesn’t even make sense. Its played out. Get a new animal or something, most people are tired of hearing it and using it. Okay, maybe this site is cool, but overall, we should all get over it.
