Kevin Millar - Still Inspiring Boston Red Sox Fans?

by JC on October 19, 2007

Kevin Millar just finished up his first (make that second) season as a Baltimore Oriole. Needless to say, it didn’t get him very far. But that doesn’t mean he can’t participate in the revelry that is the Red Sox Nation. Check out this report from the Providence Journal, with Millar encouraging Sox fans to pick their heads up for the series with the Cleveland Indians. The Red Sox now trail Cleveland 3-2 after a 7-1 win in last night’s Game 5 of the American League Championship Series.

Red Sox fans watching last night’s pregame show on Fox were shocked to get a pep talk from a familiar, though departed, face.
“Come on, Red Sox fans,’’ implored Kevin Millar, a member of the Sox from 2003-05 who now plays for the Baltimore Orioles, in a prepared spot that led into a commercial. “Get off the Tobin Bridge and support the Sox.’’

If the Orioles weren’t what we all thought they were, I might have a problem with a new player showering fans with support for his old team. But considering that the Birds have no hope in sight for a significant shift in leadership or talent, I think its cool. The Sox have a history of coming back from large deficits, so if it takes a former idiot to get a bunch of current idiots going, more power to them.

I just wish he could inspire Orioles fans with more moves like this:
