Morgan State University Adds a Little Sunshine To Its Roster

by JC on August 29, 2007

Here’s a story from the Baltimore Sun regarding Baltimore’s Morgan State University. Seems that the Bears have created formidable ties with Florida for recruiting, and that the Sunshine State has not disappointed.

With a season opener at home tomorrow night at home against MEAC hopeful Savannah State, the Bears will have 18 Florida natives on the roster, second only to the 24 Marylanders. The key for Morgan winning the state of Florida? Several players from the state are transfers from junior college or other Division I-A schools.

Morgan was once mentioned with Grambling, Southern and other notable black college football programs, but had seen a significant drop off in the early 1980’s; the University did not have a winning season until 2002 under current head coach Donald Hill-Eley. Picked to finish sixth in the conference this season, Morgan boasts one of the top facilities and fields in Maryland collegiate athletics, with a field that hosts numerous state and national championships in track and field, football and basketball.
