Gibbs Bosses Up on NASCAR, Not So Much With Skins

by JC on July 18, 2007

Haven’t heard too much more about the beef between Denny Hamlin and Tony Stewart that got to broilin’ last week since Joe Gibbs came back into town. Seems that the owner of Joe Gibbs racing got one of racing’s hotheads in Stewart and his teammate to cool it off before last week’s race in Chicagoland. Good thing too, as Tony Stewart got to walk away from the incident and the track with his first win in his last 20 starts.

It’s amazing, though. Cooler heads seem to prevail with this incident, but not with former Redskins linebacker LaVar Arrington. Or the entire 2006 defensive unit’s bickering with Skins coordinator/Daniel Snyder’s f*ck boy Gregg Williams for that matter.

It’s easy to place blame for the Redskins’ woes last season on free spending Snyder, but the credit for this lackluster bunch should fall very squarely on Gibbs. Not so much for his coaching style or motivational ability, but for not reigning in on Williams’ dick head parade and his combustible nature on the strongest aspect of the team, the defense.

Years ago, Gibbs quietly made his authority over players coaches known throughout the organization. But in his current tenure, players have been more than willing to air out grievances with play calling, lack of communication, and arrogance on personnel decisions.

Does Washington love Gibbs enough to grant him immunity from what’s wrong with the Redskins? Sure they do, but’s it’s not from a lack of understanding or a new sense of patience. It’s because Gibss represents the fast lane to hope for a mediocre franchise.
